Hi! I can't sleep so have an introduction! This is Kasey with a third that I don't need: Sparrow Freling! Full profile here.

SPARROW FRELING | They/Them | Explorer & Research (photographer) | 40

POWERS: Sparrow is an animal shapeshifter that can turn into one or more animals, so long as the total mass equals the mass of their human form. This could be two large dogs, tens of cats, hundreds of birds, thousands of insects. You get it! All of these animal forms share a hivemind. To keep this experience from totally wrecking them, they have enhanced mental processing that allows them to handle many sensory inputs at a time. Unfortunately, when they're in just a single form, that enhanced mental processing can get a bit overwhelming. They notice everything and can sometimes hyperfixate/get distracted by inexplicable things. They've also got an enhanced physicality in their human form. They're not super anything, but they're extra exceptional across the board when it comes to strength, speed, dexterity, etc.! ~~How annoying.~~

BASICS:

Grew up in Maine with a large, tightknit, supportive family. ♥ They're still v close. They had a comfortable youth, went to college on a hockey scholarship and studied Photography, and spent their adult life as a wildlife photographer and later a scientific photographer. Took them some interesting places! It was a good time!
They dated Rory Fairfax for a couple of years but eventually broke things off because they wanted (or seemed to want) different things. For Sparrow, this was marriage and a family. They later found this with someone else instead: Montserrat Stone (Hypatia Stone's sister!). The pair married and had two children and Sparrow was all about that dad life!
Ideal-ish life until their powers manifested two years ago and turned it all upside down. Whoops! The experience changed them, causing their marriage to end and leading them first to an IRIS reintegration program (to help people come to terms with trying powers and get back to a normal life) and later a job exploring and documenting emerging Riftlands for IRIS. They've just come to Enodia Station because their ex-wife moved to Vermont and they wanted to be close enough to visit their kiddos often.
Because of their hivemind situation, Sparrow perceives themselves as a collective instead of a singular entity these days. Many instead of one. Male and female and everything in between. All that good stuff. For these reasons, they use they/them pronouns. They also refer to themselves as 'we' instead of 'I'. It just feels weird otherwise.
Generally an upbeat, optimistic fellow but still struggling some with their circumstances and their sense of self. It's a lot! Regardless, they're still a dorky nature enthusiast and a sporty airhead himbo and a generally warm person with a lot of energy and good intentions. With people they're close to, they're an overly affectionate caretaker. Hope you like figurative and literal bear hugs!

POTENTIAL LINES: Nothing specific. They've already got two unexpectedly familiar faces here! :) Buuuut they'll be keen to meet people (especially fellow outdoorsy types, fellow athletic types, fellow parents, fellow annoying morning people, etc.) and they'll likely be starting some kind of pick-up sports club through the Rec Center. Let's bond over field hockey! Powers allowed! It makes it interesting! Beyond that, they've traveled a lot of places and could have met people coincidentally? Otherwise, nothing specific jumps to mind and I'm happy to start them with no additional lines.

Sparrow is such a cool character and I can't wait to interact with them!

Cole would love to be friends? They're not that far apart in age and he would love to play field hockey. And feed Sparrow!

We talked a bit about Evan. I'd offer roommates, but IDK how he'd feel about living with a 27yo mess.

Ofc we'll have to see how they get along in-game, but Sparrow is down for friendship! Cole, come play sports. Cole, please share food. Sparrow can cook but in a pretty basic sort of way and they don't have a lot of diversity in their repertoire (how often is too often for breakfast for dinner?), so they'll almost certainly be impressed.

Evan and Sparrow as roommates is honestly so funny to me. I can just picture someone in HR looking at their power sets and being like 'yeah, this makes sense :)' and not considering anything else. That said, Sparrow wouldn't mind! They're pretty easygoing, so as long as Evan seems comfortable, they'd be fine too. Which is to say, I'm down if you are! Actual Animal House.

Oh, I figured since they'd just be getting here (???) that Cole would naturally be friendly and attempt to make friends with them. Lmao, I didn't assume auto-friendship. I need to start being more mindful of how I phrase things. But this all sounds good to me!

Perfect! I love that! Evan's just got the three pets atm, so as long as that doesn't bother them, we're good to go!

Rad! Sparrow doesn't have any pets right now, but they don't have any problem with them at all either. Though, I imagine, their scent might be mildly confusing to animals. Sorry, Max!

Thankfully, Max is pretty intelligent and will be able to accept random smells. But! Still expect a lot of sniffing.

There’s nothing in the fridge except condiments and some terrible beer, but don’t worry, she won’t touch your stuff.

If Sparrow realizes that Evan doesn't keep real food in the apartment, she's about to get a lot of homemade dinner invites. Dad Mode Engaged. Sorry.

Max *is* good. It’s Scrap you gotta look out for.

Evan knows how to make spaghetti. That’s about it. She buys a lot from the vending machines. Just be warned that Evan’s kind of like a stray, if you feed her, she’ll be loyal to you forever. (She’ll also buy the groceries if he doesn’t mind sharing food sometimes.)

YEAAAHHH SPARROW

Vidalia will love them and not just because she assumes 40-year-old bros are her peers, but because she's a himbo at heart. She will absofruitly play powers sports even if she doesn't know how to play field hockey. Half the fun is learning!!!

Zeke will probably be like "hm... jock" (skeptical), THOUGH he's done a lot of wandering and they could have crossed paths if you want. Augustin sees a new person he can learn all about. Might ask them a bunch of ridiculous questions about their powers. WE WILL SEE but he'll probably like them!! They seem friend-shaped!!

Vidalia deserves as many 40-year-old bros as she can find! Let's Go Himbos! Sparrow coached hockey for kiddos and will bring that exact energy into teaching Vidalia.

Zeke...is right. JOCK. Nothing comes to mind necessarily in terms of random encounters, but I'm open to suggestions! Or Zeke can just meet them for the first time and be underwhelmed. And Sparrow is down to talk powers with Augustin, though sometimes it makes their head hurt. :) Sparrow always aims to be friend-shaped!

Lou ofc will know them through Rory, and was probably fond of them back in the day. How he'll react kinda depends on how the reunion with Rory goes but he doesn't have anything against them! Also, he's outdoorsy and into photography if they wind up chatting on their own too.

Whit will be friendly/polite but depending on what Sparrow is turning into at the moment, might be on edge as a sorta-prey-animal or the other way around as a sorta-predatory-animal.

I was meaning to message about this, yeah! But I dropped the ball, obviously. The feeling was definitely mutual and Sparrow would've loved talking photography and nature stuff with Lou. They also probably think Lou is one of the Smartest People They've Ever Met, but in a cool way and not an intimidating way. Cool & Smart Plant Guy Lou! I assume they fell out of touch when things ended with them and Rory, which Sparrow would've been bummed about. So it's nice to see Lou!

Omg bringing out Whit's predator/prey instinct is...amazing. Let's go. Sparrow will be friendly to Whit too, ofc! And thinks being possum-adjacent is great! They'll also stop into the store looking for cute pens/paper/etc. for their kiddos.

No worries!!! Lou ALSO thinks Sparrow is Cool and Smart, and he'll be happy that they got to be a dad and get to have that nice lil domestic life even for a little whole. :')

Awwwww, that's so cute! Whit will like them and make sure to bring in lots of kid-friendly stuff for gifts! He also insists it's nothing personal if his marsupial brain sometimes gets Sensitive sometimes.

Tom also occasionally uses We and they could have some interesting convos about how hard and/or cool it is to be multiples of stuff!
