I feel like I used to just say root but when my husband started working as a mailman it felt extremely weird to talk about mail roots and now I don't know what my natural inclination even is anymore

but at least I pronounce lawyer correctly @ The South

this debate is how I found out some people pronounce foyer like it's spelled and not foy-yay so I'm willing to listen to a petition to start saying it loy-yay

It's because foyer is a loanword from French and lawyer is from Middle English iirc

hard agree. like maybe if it was fancy and big enough to have one of those useless tables with a vase on it in the center, then it can be a foy-yay. but if it's just a place i take my shoes off then it's a foyer.
